Think Logistics and Career Ready win Motor Transport’s Partnership Award
Merseyside-based Think Logistics with educational charity Career Ready each received a major industry honour at last night’s 31st Motor Transport Awards in London, picking up the Partnership Award for their efforts to bring more young people into the transport and logistics sector.
Think Logistics, founded by Abbey Logistics MD Steve Granite, is an industry-led initiative to reach out to school children and tell them of the outstanding career opportunities the industry offers.
Its partnership with Career Ready has the overriding objective to educate young people about road transport and logistics by developing direct and long-lasting relationships between employers, schools, colleges and young people. Career Ready has a network of 200 schools and colleges spanning the UK. Events include Think Logistics workshops in schools and colleges as well as workplace visits where students can experience a haulage business in the real world.
The scheme provides four- to six-week paid internships to students in the summer holidays to give them experience in a logistics business, as well as mentoring sessions from experienced industry figures. More than 1,000 students have attended a Think Logistics workshop.
Judges said the partnership presents an “opportunity to recruit the younger generation into the industry and is a great example of collaboration”.
The awards, organised by Motor Transport magazine, are the road transport industry event of the year, recognising innovation, outstanding service, efficiency and quality. Winning a Motor Transport award shows that a business has reached the very highest standards, as judged by an independent panel of experts drawn from the industry.
The Partnership Award was sponsored by Bandvulc Group. Television and radio presenter, film critic, and actor Jonathan Ross presented the award in front of more than 1,600 guests at the Grosvenor House – A JW Marriott Hotel on London’s Park Lane.
